President Trump has his first Republican 2020 challenger and it’s Bill Weld, a former two term Governor of Massachusetts.
Everything you need to know about Mr. Weld and his campaign can be summed up by the fact he chose to announce his run for President on CNN.
TAPPER: “The former two-term Republican governor of Massachusetts, Bill Weld, is here with me, live in studio, and Mr. Weld has something to announce. Governor?”
WELD: “Jake, I’m announcing that I’m running for president of the United States as a Republican against the president in 2020.”
TAPPER: “You’re hoping to take him on in the primaries?”
WELD: “In the primaries. I really think if we have six more years of the same stuff we’ve had out of the White House, that would be a tragedy and I would fear for the I would be ashamed of myself if I didn’t run myself and run.”
