CNN is just a despicable network. There’s no other way to describe it.
It’s bad enough that CNN spent 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for over two years pushing a Trump-Russia collusion hoax narrative to help the Democrats fight against President Trump’s agenda and to delegitimize his presidency, but they are now publishing articles to harm Trump while at the same time protecting themselves for a problem that was clearly of their own making.
What am I talking about? CNN published an article on Monday headlined, “Exclusive: US extracted top spy from inside Russia in 2017,” where they tried to continued to lie about everything Trump-Russia by claiming that the president burned a Russian asset because he is an oaf who didn’t know how to handle classified intelligence, and he was possibly trying to protect himself from the Russia collusion probe too.
From the piece:
In a previously undisclosed secret mission in 2017, the United States successfully extracted from Russia one of its highest-level covert sources inside the Russian government, multiple Trump administration officials with direct knowledge told CNN.
A person directly involved in the discussions said that the removal of the Russian was driven, in part, by concerns that President Donald Trump and his administration repeatedly mishandled classified intelligence and could contribute to exposing the covert source as a spy.
CNN wants you to believe that a Russian spy who had been feeding U.S. intelligence valuable information was burned by Trump, and now to save himself he decided to extract the asset before Vladimir Putin had him arrested and exposed Trump of some evil doing with Russia.
CNN claims the decision to carry out the extraction happened soon after a May 2017 meeting in the Oval Office when Trump discussed classified intelligence with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and then-Russian Ambassador to the US Sergey Kislyak. Israel had provided intelligence concerning ISIS in Syria.
The Fake News network complained that the disclosure to the Russians by Trump prompted intelligence officials to renew earlier talks about the potential risk of exposure of the asset, even though Trump never mentioned the Russian spy.
Here’s the key part from the CNN story:
At the time, then-CIA Director Mike Pompeo told other senior Trump administration officials that too much information was coming out regarding the covert source, known as an asset. An extraction, or “exfiltration” as such an operation is referred to by intelligence officials, is an extraordinary remedy when US intelligence believes an asset is in immediate danger.
So, CNN published an article about the need to get a Russian spy out of danger because Trump mishandled intelligence. It wasn’t until the very end of the article that CNN buried the details that completely debunk their own anti Trump narrative!
At the end of the Obama administration, US intelligence officials had already expressed concerns about the safety of this spy and other Russian assets, given the length of their cooperation with the US, according to the former senior intelligence official.
That was literally from the same article! CNN’s own article debunks the article. And they call themselves a news network.
So, the truth is that the concerns over the Russian spy being burned began under the Obama administration, and it wasn’t a Trump debacle with intelligence, but CNN was banking on the fact that most of their readers would never make it the end of the piece. Once their readers got enough of CNN’s “Orange Man Bad” narrative from the story, they would stop reading and come away thinking Trump burned a Russian asset to either cover up collusion or because he is a dope who doesn’t know how to handle highly classified information.
And it is now widely believed that the Obama intelligence people had been probing this Russian asset for dirt on 2016 candidate Donald Trump!
From the NY Times piece:
The informant’s information was so delicate, and the need to protect the source’s identity so important, that the C.I.A. director at the time, John O. Brennan, kept information from the operative out of President Barack Obama’s daily brief in 2016. Instead, Mr. Brennan sent separate intelligence reports, many based on the source’s information, in special sealed envelopes to the Oval Office.
The information itself was so important and potentially contentious in 2016 that top C.I.A. officials ordered a full review of the informant’s record, according to people briefed on the matter. Officials reviewed information the source had provided years earlier to ensure that it had proved accurate.
… the same John Brennan who spied on Obama’s enemies and who openly hates Donald Trump.
The decision to extract the informant was driven “in part” because of concerns that Mr. Trump and his administration had mishandled delicate intelligence, CNN reported. But former intelligence officials said there was no public evidence that Mr. Trump directly endangered the source, and other current American officials insisted that media scrutiny of the agency’s sources alone was the impetus for the extraction.
Even the WaPo’s piece said:
But former intelligence officials said there was no public evidence that Mr. Trump directly endangered the source, and other current American officials insisted that media scrutiny of the agency’s sources alone was the impetus for the extraction.
In the end, CNN is allegedly worried that it was their own reporting on the story to harm Trump that may have outed the Russian spy. John Durham the U.S. Attorney out of Connecticut who was appointed by Attorney General William Barr to investigate the origins of the Russia probe and the Michael Horowitz the DOJ Inspector General who is investigating FISA abuse by the Obama administration, are about to come out with their reports almost simultaneously, and it is being predicted that there will be seriously damning evidence against the Fake News media, and so CNN is trying to get ahead of it by creating the narrative that the whole thing went belly up because Trump is a moron.
According to the Times piece, Trump was first briefed on the intelligence about Russian interference, including material from the Russian spy informant, fully two weeks before his inauguration, and that a CIA spokeswoman who responded the CNN hit piece called the assertion that Mr. Trump’s handling of intelligence drove the reported extraction “misguided speculation.”
That’s what CNN’s byline should be. “This is CNN – Misguided Speculation.”
